Mistura Fina (“fine blend”) is an expert blending of two worlds of music; Brazil and America. The duo is a
union of classically trained guitarist Michael McClintock and multi-instrumentalist and jazz guitarist Jordan
Shipley. The duo performs a unique repertoire of Brazilian jazz, popular, traditional/folk, and classical
music.
Michael McClintock studied classical guitar at the University of Missouri – Kansas City Conservatory of
Music under the instruction of Douglas Niedt where he obtained a Bachelor of Music in guitar performance
and acted as president of the UMKC Guitarists.
After his studies Michael continued to seek opportunities to expand his knowledge of different musical
cultures from around the world through intensive study of Flamenco and Latin American music. Michael has
performed as a classical and flamenco guitarist throughout the United States and has performed several
times in Kansas City at venues such as Starlight Theater and the Lyric Opera.
Michael's growing technical mastery and emotional depth is continually being cultivated through Flamenco,
Brazilian and Jazz studies. Michael is also highly dedicated to instruction and has been operating his own
studio since 2001.
Jordan Shipley’s passion and dedication to the music of Latin America has come to fruition in his most
recent project with Mistura Fina. Jordan studied jazz guitar at the University of Missouri – Kansas City with
renowned guitarist Rod Fleeman and under the direction of the great jazz saxophonist Bobby Watson.
While at UMKC he also studied classical guitar under Douglas Niedt.
Since his studies at UMKC, Jordan has sought out the instruction of jazz guitarist Danny Embry, as well as
studies of Brazilian music under percussionist Doug Auwarter and renowned Brazilian jazz educator
Antonio Adolfo.
Jordan is fully immersed in Brazilian music and culture and as a result is well versed in many musical styles
and instruments from Brazil and speaks Brazilian Portuguese. He has traveled and performed throughout
the Southeast region of Brazil, in the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, as well as many venues in the
Kansas City and greater Midwest region.
